Many authors write in more than one genre and books include more than one genre in the story.
I've been asked several different questions regarding genres. In this post I'm giving you sort of an overview and then in separate post I'll talk about each genre.
First let me say, write what you enjoy, you do not want to write something just because it's the fad right now. And it is in a genre that you do not enjoy writing about.
I have a friend that has been very successful in writing erotica romance but they do not enjoy it. They needed to make some money and published it themselves as an eBook, they now write for a large publishing house and they make a living doing so but they do not enjoy it.
So write what you like.
What Genre should I write in? It doesn't matter if you write what you like.
If you are writing just for the money, two things are going to happen: first you are going to be miserable especially if you do not like what you are writing about and second you are going to be disappointed. It takes most authors a long while before they make enough money to quit their day jobs. And many authors never make enough money to live on.
Ever heard the term (starving artiest?)there is a reason that term exist, because many writers, musicians and artiest do not make enough money to pay the light bill. There are more of those than writers like J.K.Rowling. (Unfortunately)
But don't give up, keep writing, keep mastering your skill and remember if you are a new author you need to find your own voice. (Finding your voice is another post for another time) Song of The Red Wolf
